Steam crashing while viewing game pages in 64bit Linux (With Videos)

So my steam has been crashing every time i go to browse the store for games. It only seems to be crashing with games that have video previews. So this to me sounds like a flash player problem. Since im running Linux mint 15 64bit, i needed to put in “libflashplayer.so (32bit)” in my “~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/plugins” folder. Since inside “/ubuntu12_32” doesn’t have a folder called “/plugins“, i just had to make one with “mkdir plugins“. Then i grabbed the latest copy of the 32bit flash player from “http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/“, by selecting “linux(32bit)” as my operating system, and grabbing the “.tar.gz” file. Then extracted the “libflashplayer.so” file in the new “/plugins” folder inside of my “/ubuntu12_32” directory.

This problem most likely has been posted everywhere, and people have figured this solution out before, but oddly in my 64bit..i had never had to do this until just a few days ago. It had always just worked without doing so. Anyway..for those who do need this solution, i am posting it.

My steam is working well now. Good luck!

Good stuff, I like you are trying to help.

I heard from somewhere, cant’ remember where, that if you dont’ visit steam within a month your account gets closed, or something to that affect.

After hearing that I rushed to steam and saw X3:Albion Prelude ready for Linux, clicking on it shut down steam, I tried a few times, but thanks to your post I have the opportunity to download and try it out now.

The package I purchased included :Reunion and :Terran Conflict, unforutnately the :Terran Conflict erred at my platform. Lets see if :Albion Prelude will work.

Thanks for your post it got me back into steam again.

Well i am very glad i could help you out! When it was happening to me, i was getting frustrated. It’s funny how alot of apps still stick to 32bit format. It’s almost like the world isn’t ready for a full 64bit change yet. As for X3, i just own Reunion, but i do plan on getting the rest of them in the future. It is a very good game.
